Speaker Paul Ryan will tell his Republican colleagues Tuesday morning that his political arm has raised more than $30 million for his party since he took the chamber’s top job in October, a massive cash haul to help ensure the GOP keeps control of the House this year.
Ryan (R-Wis.) will also tell House Republicans in a closed Capitol Hill meeting that he transferred $3.7 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee in May, another large infusion to keep the party’s political arm flush with cash.
When he assumed the speakership in October, many had doubts about Ryan’s ability to raise the money necessary to keep the NRCC afloat. But Ryan has quickly proved to be a prolific fundraiser, raising millions of dollars for the NRCC and his House colleagues. This cycle, Ryan has transferred more than $21 million to the NRCC.
The task of keeping the House has become even more daunting in recent weeks, with Donald Trump’s hot rhetoric putting even more seats — and potentially the majority — in play.
