House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy might have been denied in his quest to become speaker last year, but the California Republican has remained a fundraising powerhouse this cycle.
McCarthy has donated $2 million — more than any other member of leadership — to GOP candidates and incumbents from his reelection campaign and leadership PAC, Majority Committee PAC. Ninety percent of that amount has gone to incumbents.
McCarthy also has transferred $5.5 million directly to the National Republican Congressional Committee and taken part in nearly 200 fundraising events.
McCarthy said in an interview that “from the day I got in Congress, even before we got the majority, this is what I’ve always done. I have always had the capability to raise as much as I do now, but it’s always been about traveling, helping candidates and incumbents.”
